Edu’s Wabi-Sabi Cabin

Perhaps one of the most unique properties in the Sullivan County Catskills, the striking brutalist facade blends in elegant contrast to the natural surroundings. Ascend the stairs and enter the 1950’s Bavarian cabin with original wood floors, paneling, and cheery built-ins. When we got our hands on this one it was in rough shape, but was such a fascinating home that there was no way we couldn’t do it, right? The method of attack was to treat the house like a giant, expenisve art project. While the art may catch your attention, one piece is actually a custom created concealed door inspird by artist Sean Scully that reveals the main floor bathroom. On the ground level is an eccentric spa-like retreat with a sauna, spring fed water feature, and a rocky solarium plunge pool that is hard to put into words. Edu’s Wabi-Sabi Cabin is undoubtedly a distinctive residence and respite for the body and imagination.
